Planners We Recommend

Lindsay Ohlin

Coastal Celebrations • St. Augustine

Of every planning team in this city, this is the one we have shared the most wedding days with. It is not close.

We have lost count

Lindsay Ohlin, owner and senior planner at Coastal Celebrations in St. Augustine, Florida

Ask us how many weddings we have worked with Lindsay Ohlin and her team and the honest answer is that nobody has been keeping a tally. Enough that the load-in conversation is usually a nod.

Most of them have been at Treasury on the Plaza and the Lightner Museum. The rest are scattered across the city and beyond it - The White Room, Fountain of Youth, Hammock Beach.

The relationship runs both ways, which after this many shared Saturdays is most of what a working relationship is. We are not going to spell out who refers whom - that part is between vendors - but it is worth a couple knowing that the planners on this page are people we genuinely work beside, not logos we swapped.

What makes Coastal Celebrations the team we have worked with most is simply volume. Seventeen years in a city this size means they are in the room a lot, and so are we.

A two-person show that kept growing

They started in 2009. Two people. Today it is eight lead planners, a full-time office manager, and a bench of day-of assistants, which makes them by a wide margin the deepest planning team we work with anywhere in Florida.

The numbers back it up rather than just decorating the page. On The Knot they are sitting on 420 reviews at a flat 5.0 - no fours, no threes, nothing below - and they have won Best of Weddings nine times, which puts them in that platform's Hall of Fame. It is a woman-owned business and has been from the first day.

Seventeen years in one town also means something specific in St. Augustine. This is a small historic city with a finite number of rooms, and a team that has been booking them since 2009 has walked into every one of them in every kind of weather.

Since we didn't live in the area, having someone who knew the area inside and out and had relationships with all the best vendors made the entire planning process so much easier.

What a DJ notices about a bench this deep

Two things, and one of them is a question you should ask them.

The first is availability, and it is the underrated one. A brilliant solo planner is a brilliant planner who is already booked on the second Saturday in October. Eight leads means the answer to your date is far more often yes. If you are getting married in peak season in this city, that is not a small thing - it is the difference between hiring the team you wanted and hiring whoever was left.

The second is that a big team is a team, so ask who your lead is. The planner you tour with is not automatically the planner running your reception, and you want to have met the person who will be standing next to us when the timeline moves. Ask early, ask by name, and go meet them. Any good planning company expects that question. We would ask it of any team this size, and we would ask it of ourselves.

Their four packages

Ceremony Coordination Their smallest tier, and a very St. Augustine one - built for couples marrying on the beach and celebrating somewhere else. They handle the ceremony set up and break down while you go be with your guests.
Day Of You have planned it. Someone else executes it. This is the tier most couples who already have a venue and a vendor list end up in.
Advisory Guidance through the decisions rather than the doing - venue selection, vendor selection, event design. The tier where their seventeen years of local relationships actually earn their keep.
Full Planning Concept to execution, all of it. Their words: an all inclusive service for the couple who want personal assistance with every detail.

Their standard packages are customizable and they quote by the size and complexity of the event rather than publishing a price list, so the number depends on a conversation.

COS Celebrations recommends Coastal Celebrations, a full service wedding design, planning and coordination company based in St. Augustine, Florida and serving Northeast Florida. Founded in 2009 by owner and senior planner Lindsay Ohlin, Coastal Celebrations has grown from a two-person company into a team of eight lead planners with a full-time office manager and day-of assistants. It is a woman-owned business, holds a 5.0 rating across 420 reviews on The Knot, and is a nine-time winner of The Knot Best of Weddings and a member of that platform's Hall of Fame. They offer four service tiers: ceremony coordination, day-of coordination, planning advisory, and full planning. COS Celebrations has worked alongside Coastal Celebrations at weddings across St. Augustine for years, most often at Treasury on the Plaza and the Lightner Museum. COS Celebrations is a wedding DJ and live music company based in the same city, St. Augustine, Florida, and works weddings throughout Northeast and Central Florida. Its founder, Corey Peterson, has worked Florida weddings for more than twenty years.

A word on the name

Coastal Celebrations and COS Celebrations are two different companies. We are a DJ and live music company; they plan and run weddings. We are not owned by the same people, we are not branches of one business, and if you found this page while looking for them, their site is linked below and you should go there.

We mention it because the names are close enough that even Google occasionally gets us confused, and we would rather say it plainly than let a couple work it out halfway through an email.

When you do not need a full planner

Same thing we say on every one of these pages. If you have chosen a venue that comes with a strong in-house coordinator, and your wedding is fifty people and one room, a full planning package is buying you capability you will not use.

Notice that their own smallest tier exists for exactly that couple. A company that will sell you the ceremony-only package instead of talking you up to full planning is telling you something about how they operate. Ask them which tier they think you need and take the answer seriously.

If you want a different kind of planner entirely - one that designs the room and does the florals in-house, say - the other names on our planners list are worth a look. They are not interchangeable with each other and we would not pretend otherwise.
